At Fauna Australia, they believe that to truly appreciate Australia's unique animals you need to view them at their most active: night, and without interference from large groups of people. Guests are the only people allowed in to view and meet the friendly animals. Australian Wildlife to see during your stay includes Koalas, Kangaroos, Wallabies, Wombats, Cockatoos, Birds and Nocturnal Animals like Bats, Possums, Bettongs and Gliders.

Both the cottage and unit are located within the perimeter fence of the wildlife park. The accommodation is fully self-contained, so the only thing you need to bring is some food and drink.
WOMBAT COTTAGE: Situated in the park amongst the wildlife, Wombat Cottage is fully self-contained. It has a separate bedroom with a queen bed. A king single and a trundle bed is situated in the living area. Suitable for up to 4 people. Animal feed supplied for close interaction, & torch provided to view nocturnal species. Gas BBQ. Free-standing accommodation, with it's own private yard.
KANGAROO UNIT: Situated inside the park amongst the wildlife, Kangaroo Family Unit is for larger groups who don't mind bunking together. Partitions and folding doors screen off sleeping areas. Fully self-contained with room to spread out. Animal feed supplied for close interaction, & torch provided to view nocturnal species. Gas BBQ.
2 new units, on our property but not in the park grounds. Guests receive animal feed and have access to the animals.
KOALA SUITE: Built in December '08, Koala Suite has easy access from your vehicle with parking at your door. It has a separate bedroom with a queen bed. Single/ Bunk bed is situated in an alcove in the living area (suitable for 2 extra adults, or up to 3 children. Disabled Bathroom. S/C kitchen. Next door, Joey Room is ideal for extended families or travelling friends. Animal feed supplied for close interaction & torch provided to view nocturnal species.
JOEY ROOM: Built in December '08, Joey Room has easy access from your vehicle, with parking at the door. Great for extended families or travelling friends, as a discount applies if other onsite accommodation is also booked. Also ideal for couples/twin share. It has a kitchenette and ensuite. Animal feed supplied for close interaction & torch provided to view nocturnal species.
WALLABY BUDGET VAN: Situated inside the park, Wallaby Budget Van is for those who don't mind roughing it a bit. The outside toilet and bathroom provide the real Aussie atmosphere. The fully lined/solid annexe is setup like a cabin with a double bed, arm chairs, dining and TV/DVD. Basic cooking facilities in van. Animal feed supplied for close interaction & torch provided to view nocturnal species. Gas BBQ. Free-standing accommodation, with private area (not from animals, just other guests). Not available from May to September.
A shared guest laundry consisting of a washing machine, drier and laundry sink is situated inside the Park for those staying in Koala Suite, Joey Room and Wallaby Budget Van. Wombat Cottage and Kangaroo Family Unit have their own separate facilities.
The Great Ocean Road and the Otway Ranges provide visitors with breathtaking scenes around every bend and the Wildlife Retreat allows guests only to combine this with a rare wildlife experience along the way. Fauna Australia is located in a high rainfall area, so some warm weatherproof clothing and footwear comes in handy. Don't forget the camera and a torch.
Fauna Australia Wildlife Retreat is 2km from Lavers Hill off the Great Ocean Road and a short distance from Blackwood Gully Tearooms, Lavers Hill Tavern and Roadhouse and the Otway Junction Motor Inn. These establishments provide a large range of different meals such as Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner plus all the things in between. Local shopping is limited, but supplies can be bought at places along the way like Apollo Bay, Colac or Warrnambool. There is a small grocery store at Ferguson, on the way to the waterfalls and treetop walk "Otway Nourished".

Local Activities/Attractions:

From enjoying the interaction with the wildlife within the park and learning about the animals and habitat from the resident Zoologist, to helping with their feeding. Basic animal feed packs are provided and this will get the animals to approach, but you can also bring some animal food to gain some special friends. The Wombats, Kangaroos and Wallabies like carrots, the Bats love grapes and the Birds, Possums and Nocturnal Mammals like fruit and nuts.
Fauna Australia Wildlife Retreat is ideally located amongst the major attractions of the Great Ocean Road. From Waterfalls and rainforest walks to visiting Melba Gully to see the big 300 year old tree. Enjoy nightime walks and see the glow-worms or enjoy the newly developed Otway Fly Treetop Walk. Visit the historic Cape Otway Lighthouse or see the world famous Twelve Apostles and other geological formations. The Tour Desk can assist with advice and directions. Located 30 minutes to The Twelve Apostles, 10 minutes to Otway Fly Treetop Walk, 10 minutes to the beach, 15 minutes to waterfalls, 5 minutes to glowworms and 1 minute to local shops.

How To Get There:

We are situated near the small town of Lavers Hill. Lavers Hill located at the highest point of the famous Great Ocean Road. Boarded by the Otway Forest Park, Fauna Australia Wildlife Retreat is 2km from Lavers Hill towards Colac. Ideally located for travelling to the towns and attractions in the area, Fauna Australia Wildlife Retreat is an ideal base.
Exit Melbourne via the Westgate Freeway connecting to the Princes Freeway and Highway to Geelong. Continue through Geelong on the Princes Highway to the round-a-bout at Bellbrae and turn onto the Great Ocean Road. Continue past Apollo Bay and on to Lavers Hill. At Lavers Hill, turn onto the Lavers Hill-Colac Road, Fauna Australia Wildlife Retreat is 2km along on the left.

Parking Facilities:

Guests receive a code for entry, and leave their cars in the car park at the front of the property as there is a predator proof fence around the accommodation, enclosing the free-range wildlife. This however is fenced from the road.

All cancellations made at this property forfeit the full amount of the first night cancelled. "There will be NO REFUNDS given after check in"
