Gladstone is the only access to Heron Island by boat or helicopter. Situated 70km from Gladstone, Heron Island offers some of the best diving and Great Barrier Reef viewing and includes reef walking, snorkeling and underwater viewing as some of its spectacular attractions.
The Region surrounding Gladstone is a diverse and fascinating one, with an adventurous outdoor flavour complementing the busy, urban environment. From the beachside towns of Boyne Island and Tannum Sands to the idyllic, secluded beaches of Agnes Water/Town of 1770 - the options are endless.
The landscape of Lake Awoonga is created by the expansive waters of the lake and the rugged beauty of the peaks of the Mount Castletower National Park. While the scenery is magnificent, so too are the recreational opportunities with the lake shore and the recreation area firmly established as a popular inland beach.
Charter Boats are an important industry in the region with departure points at Gladstone and the Town of 1770. Sport fishing means taking a trip to the reef to catch coral trout, red emperor and spanish mackeral.
Kroombit Tops is a large Plateau that straddles the intersection of the Callope and Dawes ranges. As the most western point of the region, this is the Blue Mountains of the Gladstone Region.

How To Get There:

From Brisbane, take the Bruce Highway north 493km to Wurdong Heights. Follow the Gladstone Benaraby Road 16km then turn left into Derby Street. Turn left into Breslin Street and turn left at the Dawson Highway Intersection. We are on the left on the corner of Far Street. Gladstone Palms Motor Inn is approximately a 5 minute drive from the Railway Station (8km W Gladstone train station).
