Coober Pedy, South Australia is located 10 hours drive north of Adelaide and 6 hours drive south of Alice Springs.
Surrounded by the world's richest precious opal field, which was first discovered in 1915. The privately mined opal field now extends for many hundreds of square kilometres around the bustling town.
Coober Pedy is world famous for its underground homes, churches and other tourist attractions. Approximately 50% of the population live in underground homes called "dugouts".
Fossick for your own opal, watch an opal cutter at work or visit the unique towns of Oodnadatta and William Creek. Explore the Outback on a camel safari, take an outback scenic flight or explore the famous Oodnadatta Track. Play golf at Coober Pedy Opal Fields Golf Club, visit the Old Timers Mine - genuine old working mine with museum and opal shop or visit Coober Pedy Underground Pottery.

How To Get There:

850km north of Adelaide, and 690km south of Alice Springs, Coober Pedy is a perfect stop over on the long trip north up the Stuart Highway. Serviced daily by Rex airlines and McCafferty's coaches. Mud Hut Motel is opposite the Visitor Information Centre at the top end of town.
