Goondiwindi (pronounced 'Gun' rather than 'Goon') - "resting place of the birds" features birds by the thousands most of the year. Birds include Jabiru, pelicans, Kurrawongs, Top-Knot Pigeons, blue-eyed honeyeater, major Mitchell galahs, sulphur crested cockatoos, magpies, butcher birds, lorikeets and the rare apostle birds.
The Goondiwindi Township is important because of its unique position at the junction of the Cunningham, Newell, Bruxner, Barwon and Leichhardt Highways on the border between New South Wales and Queensland.
Discover Goondiwindi's many other attractions such as Customs House Museum and a number of historic buildings including the Anglican Church and Martha's Cottage. Goondiwindi Botanic Gardens of Western Woodland is a display of the unique plant communities of the Upper Darling Basin as well as a wide variety of bird and natural wildlife.
