Coonabarabran is the astronomy capital of Australia. There are plenty of things to do including visit Australia's largest telescope at Mt Siding Observatory or take a night time visit to the Sky Watch Observatory and gaze at the universe, right here in Coonabarabran!
The spectacular Warrumbungle National Park is 36km west of Coonabarabran. Visitors can enjoy bushwalking, photography, camping, picnics, viewing wildlife and rock climbing. Take a tour of Newcastle Hats (the staff are happy to arrange this for you), see hats, hats and more hats being made in front of you.
Other activities include a visit to the Crystal Kingdom, learn about the geology of the area, visit the wonderful Hickory Falls, laze by the pool at the motel and relax before heading off, enjoy a game of golf or bowls and wander through the town of Coonabarabran and enjoy the shops and cafes, make sure you pick up some astronomy souvenirs!

How To Get There:

Matthew Flinders Motor Inn is located at the southern end of Coonabarabran, 1km south of the information centre.
If you are driving from the north, drive straight through the town centre and continue on for 1.5km, the motel is on the left with a bright red sign.
If you are driving from the south, the motel is located just as you come into Coonabarabran, on the right hand side of the road.
169km north from Dubbo - 179km east to Tamworth - 210km north to Moree
